PCS EXAM

PCS Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination for the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) Exam is the first stage of the competitive examination conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). The objective of the Preliminary Examination is to shortlist the candidates for the Main Examination, and only those candidates who clear the cut-off marks in the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Examination. PCS Main Examination
The Main Examination for the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) Exam is the second stage of the competitive examination conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). The Main Examination is usually of descriptive type and tests a candidate’s knowledge and abilities in various subjects.
The Main Examination typically consists of the following written papers:
General Studies – This paper tests a candidate’s general knowledge and awareness in various subjects, including Indian history, geography, polity, economy, and current affairs.
General English – This paper tests a candidate’s English language skills, including comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and writing ability.
Hindi – This paper tests a candidate’s Hindi language skills, including comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and writing ability.
Essay – This paper tests a candidate’s ability to write an essay in English or Hindi on a given topic.
Two Optional Papers – The candidates have to choose two optional subjects from a list of approved subjects, such as Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, History, and others.
The Main Examination is usually conducted over a period of several days, and each paper is of 200 marks with a duration of 3 hours. The marks obtained in the Main Examination are considered for the final ranking and are used along with the marks obtained in the Personality Test (Interview) to determine the final ranking of the candidates.
